Maia woke feeling terrible, but managed to make it through the day. The estate was settled quickly, as she was the only remaining family member, and neither Charlie Ray nor Madeline had any living heirs. She was now the sole owner of the mansion and all the property it contained.
The funeral was difficult. But it finally ended and Maia was left alone with her grief.
Maia felt lethargic. While she was awake, she often just sat in front of the big screen TV, watching cartoons. She frequently felt nauseated, and had strange food cravings, even though she had little appetite. And she slept often, dreaming constantly of babies.
One morning, when she got out of bed, she felt so dizzy and sick she had to run to the bathroom.
If she didn’t know better, she’d think she was pregnant. All the symptoms added up, but she hadn’t left the house or seen anyone since the funeral. And the reaper hadn’t suggested a father for her children, so there was no one. Unless...
Unless the dreams were real.
Maia was going to have a baby. Actually, if what she remembered was all true, it appeared she was going to have one hundred babies. And now she knew. The first baby’s father was the Grim Reaper himself.
This whole idea was definitely going to take some getting used to.
But it didn’t take as long as she thought it might. Maia was excited to become a mother, even under such strange circumstances.
And that was a good thing, since she went into labor earlier than she expected.
But the doctor assured her that that was normal, at least when a Sim was pregnant with... twins!
Maia was the proud mother of a son and a daughter. She named them Romeo and Juliet, because she knew these babies wouldn’t fear the reaper.
While Juliet looked like every other normal, healthy infant,
Maia could only assume that Romeo took after his father.
The twins grew up quickly.
Maia adored them.
Even as toddlers, they already seemed to have very distinct personalities. While Juliet was friendly and social, Romeo was quieter and liked playing by himself. Of course, Juliet would join him anyway.
Soon they were bravely toddling around.
And learning how to talk.
Sometimes Maia would just listen to them talk to one another. They said the funniest things!
Hide! Mommy gots da camera again.
Lookit my shooting star booger!
You got da Bad Guy dis time. My guy tastes like da Good Guy.
Okay Bad Guy, I taking off your head!
Daddy, you in dere?
But sometimes, Maia was concerned about who else they were talking with. Quite often, Maia would be woken up in the wee hours by loud music. When she went downstairs, she'd find ghosts playing with the twins.
Finnegan, in his incorporeal form, would stop by with random ghosts and have an impromptu post-afterlife house party.
“Finnegan, you need to stop this. How are any of us supposed to sleep?”
“Hey, babe, I might be a ghost, but this is still my house. So we are gonna PAAAARTTAY on, loud enough to wake all the dead and keep them dancing til dawn! Whoo! Check me out, I’m on FIYAH!”
Perhaps it was time to move into another house that wasn’t quite so haunted.
